1. Applications for grants

1.1 Applications for trophy grants were considered by the Michael Austin Harlick Advisory Group on 4 November 2003. The group recommended grants totalling £3,830 to 11 sporting organisations. No applications were received on the grounds of financial hardship.

1.2 A sum of £1,800 was recommended to be paid to the Hampshire Schools Sports Federation to fund the Annual Presentation Evening of the Michael Austin Harlick Awards, the Michael May Cup and the HSSF President's Trophy. This evening is the only occasion on which the achievements of young sportsmen and women are celebrated in this way and is an event usually attended by about 200 people. The grant will fund the venue hire, a buffet supper, individual trophies, medals and engraving, and photographs are sent free of charge to all recipients and their families.

2. Financial position

2.1 This is the third meeting in the current financial year when a total sum of £12,000 is estimated to be available during the year. Awards amounting to £4,865 were agreed at the first two meetings and it is likely that the Advisory Group will meet on one more occasion during this financial year to consider grant applications.

Recommendation

1. That grants be awarded to sports organisations in the amounts shown in appendix 1.
