1. Summary

1.1. An application for financial assistance has been received from the Trustees of Deverell Hall in Purbrook in which grant aid of £5,000 is sought towards the cost of refurbishing the building including fire safety and access.

1.2. A grant would support Aim 1 of the Corporate Strategy by maximising life opportunities.

2. Background


2.1. The Trustees are in the process of concluding a major project to refurbish the hall. On receipt of tenders a significant amount of work had to be excluded from the final contract in order to contain the cost within the funding available from a successful lottery bid, Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage in 2002/03 (£12,500) and Havant Borough Council (£25,000) with the balance coming from the Trust's own resources.


2.2. A further, more recent funding application for £660 was agreed by the Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage in 2003/04. However, in order to bring the refurbished hall into use further funding is required to complete important basic requirements covering fire safety and access.


3. Justification


3.1. Exceptional one-off funding of £5,000 would allow these vital works to proceed immediately and the building to be used and make time for further funding to be assembled to complete the refurbishment.


3.2. Councillor R. McIntosh, the local Member, supports this application.

Recommendation:

That a one-off grant of £5,000 be awarded to the Trustees of Deverell Hall in Purbrook towards the cost of refurbishing the building including fire safety and access.
