    1. Summary

1.1 The chair of SACRE attended a meeting in London on 11 December on Effective SACREs. The main agenda item was the introduction of a Non Statutory National Framework for RE.

1.2 The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority has been commissioned to write a non-statutory Framework for Religious Education. It is intended that this will be in place from September 2004 (see QCA website address: www.QCA.org.uk).

1.3 Graham Langtree at the QCA is consulting with NASACRE (the national association of SACREs) as well as with other professional RE bodies in the writing of the Framework.

1.4 A timeframe for the production of the Framework is in Appendix 1.

1.5 The Secretary of State for Education and Skills is also concerned to address the place of collective worship in schools.

Recommendation

That SACRE note the report.
