1. Applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. in accordance with the following details. These grants would support Aim 1 of the Corporate Strategy by maximising life opportunities.
1.1. Sophie Welsh, Ringwood
Sophie (18) is undertaking voluntary work teaching in a local primary school in Botswana between April and September of this year. Once there, she will share her knowledge and experiences gained through secondary education with those less fortunate than herself. Total cost of the trip is £3,560, of which Sophie has already managed to raise £2,670.

1.2. Katherine Farmer, Botley
Katherine (14) has been selected to take part in the "Bijoux `04" International Guide Camp in St Vincent and the Grenadines in April this year, costing £700. The Camp will enable Katherine to communicate better with different nationalities and backgrounds. Katherine has already raised £370 towards these costs.

1.3. Polly White, Ringwood
Polly (21) has been chosen to take part in the Tropical Environmental Field Ecology project in association with the University of Glamorgan and Operational Wallacea. The project runs from 22 March to 10 April this year at two research bases in Honduras, costing £1,300. The Ecology project will help further her skills and knowledge about conservation management. Polly has raised £975 towards her trip.

1.4. Peter Lockhart, Winchester
Peter is currently in his gap year after finishing his A-levels last year and has been accepted by a charitable organisation called Latin Link to take part in a voluntary building projects in Sau Paulo and Belo Horizonte regions of Brazil. The project starts in March this year and will last for four months. Peter will be co-leading a team of eleven who are being asked to raise £3,000 each, which will include flights, accommodation, equipment etc.

1.5. Jenna Mansbridge, Winchester
Jenna is currently a physiotherapy student at the University of Birmingham. At University, she is also involved in a volunteer organisation called SKIP (Students for Kids International Projects) whose aim is to work in conjunction with overseas partners to provide voluntary aid to children in developing countries. Their objective is to send approximately 50 students between June and September each year to a different developing country to work and assist on projects which help to improve the lifestyle and basic care needs of children. This summer, Jenna will be working in Zambia to provide a street rehabilitation centre, orphanage and rural health centre. Costs: airfare (£500), transport (£50) and provisions (£200).

1.6. Kim Hawthorn Tadley
Kim (14) is a member of the Hampshire County Children's Choir and the National Children's Choir of Great Britain. Over the years, She has attended various County events and competitions all over the Country. Kim is seeking financial assistance towards her attending a residential week in Yorkshire and rehearsal costs with the Children's Choir (£260) and a tour of Australia and New Zealand with the National Choir of Great Britain (approx. £1,800).

1.7. Nicola Deverill, Andover
This year, Nicola is returning, as part of a team of fifteen scouts and guides, to the Lukotaime project in Uganda to build a staff residential block to enable teachers to stay in the remote village as daily commuting in the area is almost impossible. Total cost of trip: £1,400.
Nicola received a grant of £150 for her participation in the project last year and it would seem inappropriate to award her a further grant at this time.
