1 Introductory Summary
1.1 At the 24 January 2003 Executive Member for Social Care meeting a report by the Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services outlining proposals for the reorganisation and major upgrade of Malmesbury Lawn, as the final phase of refurbishment work under the Older Persons Homes Reinvestment Strategy, was approved. /decisions/decisions-docs/030124-exescd-R0205115236
1.2 The report stated that furniture and equipment requirements associated with the refurbishment would be reported to a future meeting. The details are set out below.
2 Furniture and equipment requirements
2.1 Work to refurbish the Home commenced in September 2003 and is scheduled for completion in August 2004.
2.2 The following main areas of accommodation will require to be furnished and equipped:
New intermediate care wing - new bedroom furniture throughout, dining room chairs, tables, dressers
Bedrooms - replacement furniture to include adjustable height beds, wardrobes, bedside lockers, chest of drawers, tables, chairs, commodes
Lounge/Dining Rooms - dining chairs and tables, lounge chairs, coffee tables, dressers, music centres
Unit alcoves - chairs, bookcases
Kitchenette areas - semi commercial dishwasher, fridges, microwaves
Entrance foyer - reception area furniture
Hairdressing room - chairs, hairdryers
Main kitchen - hot cupboard, food mixer, microwave, electric grills
Staff offices - cupboards
Staff room - replacement lockers
Miscellaneous items - crockery, bedding and linen, curtains and blinds and fire equipment
2.3 Additional to the list of furniture and equipment requirements above are a number of specialist items of equipment e.g. fully profiled beds, slings for ceiling track hoists, mobile hoists and standing aids.
2.4 Wherever feasible, existing furniture and equipment will be retained and re-used. However, much of this is in a sub-standard or poor condition and requires replacing, having been in use since the home was originally constructed in the early 1970's.
3 Financing
3.1 The estimated cost of the furniture and equipment is £138,000 and it is proposed that this be funded from Social Services 2004/2005 capital programme block allocation for this purpose.
3.2 The furniture and equipment will be purchased through County Supplies or competitive tender as appropriate.
Recommendation
1. That approval be given to the purchase of furniture and equipment in the sum of £138,000 and that this is funded from the furniture and equipment block allocation in the Social Services 2004/2005 capital programme.
