APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER TO INDEPENDENT REMUNERATION PANEL

1. The Chairman of the Panel for the past few years, Professor Malcolm Grant, CBE, has resigned following his appointment as Provost of University College, London. The Committee has taken the opportunity to thank Professor Grant for his services over the years and to wish him well for the future.

2. When the appointments to the Panel were initially made by the County Council in February 2002, there was an advertisement and interview procedure. Two other members were appointed, Mr. G. Boutle and Mr. F. Quick and they remain in post. Dr. Elizabeth Waterman-Roberts was appointed as a deputy, to be held in reserve in case any of the other Panel Members should resign. She has an academic background as a University lecturer, has been approached about the vacancy and is interested in taking on the duties of a Panel Member. The term of office continues until February 2006.

RECOMMENDATION:

That Dr. Elizabeth Waterman-Roberts be appointed as a member of the Independent Remuneration Panel for a period expiring in February 2006.
