1. Summary

1.1 The following grant allocation decisions totalling £24,253 were sought and approved at the Youth Panel at its meeting on 11 November 2003 and approved by the Executive Member for Education at his Decision Day on

4 December 2003.

1.2 The following grant applications were deferred for consideration by the

Chairman and the County Youth Officer on receipt of further information and

recommended for approval to the Executive Member for Education at his

Decision Day on 25 March 2004 and formal approval is now requested for the following grants.

Y270 King Alfred Youth Activity Centre - It was agreed that a decision be deferred for consideration by the Youth Panel at its meeting on 18 March 2004.

Y271 Tadley United Reformed Church Youth Project - It was agreed that a grant application be approved in the sum of £4,000.

Y277 South East Hampshire YMCA - It was agreed that the grant application be approved in the sum of £3,000 subject to a request for a further report to the Youth Panel at its meeting on 18 March 2004.

Y276 Youth Clubs and Hampshire Isle of Wight - It was agreed that the grant application should be refused and until additional Isle of Wight funding is received from other sources this request did not meet the required criteria.

Y281 The Mental Health Group - Youth in Romsey - It was agreed that a grant of £3,600 be approved.

Y284 Community First - New Forest - It was agreed that a decision be deferred for consideration by the Youth Panel at its meeting on 18 March 2004.

1.3 The grants support Aim 1 of the Corporate Strategy, Improving Services by reporting on matters likely to have an impact upon an improvement in the quality of life for Hampshire's young people.

2. Reasons

    The Youth Panel at its meeting on 18 March 2004 advised the Executive Member for Education to approve grant allocations totalling £24,253 and that the balance of the annual revenue grants be added to the Project Development Grants for further allocation by the Panel.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected - Not to make these grants. However, it is considered that making these grants constitutes an effective use of resources considering the benefits that they will bring.
