Bishops Green Youth Project Basingstoke District

Request for grant aid towards: Amount Requested: £9,000

The grant would be used to support the salary of a full-time youth worker at Bishops Green, with a particular focus on providing support to the new Youth Council and to engaging young people in the local decision making in relation to the regeneration of the area.

Aim and purpose of the organisation

Bishops Green Youth Project aims to help and educate young people, especially, but not exclusively, through their leisure time activities so to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacity that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society.

On average the youth project is open 4 times a week, and has a regular attendance per session of twenty young people. There are also additional sessions at weekends and during school holidays.

CYO recommendations

The Bishop's Green Youth Project has continued to provide a focal point for work with young people in the Bishop's Green and surrounding area. Young people are actively engaged in the decision -making within the project and with the regeneration proposals for the Bishop's Green estate. I recommend an award of £8700.
