ACCREDITED COMMUNITY SAFETY OFFICERS

1. Members will be aware of the considerable importance which the County Council attaches to community safety and reducing anti-social behaviour, as witnessed by Aim 4 of the Corporate Strategy, Building Strong and Safe Communities. In support of this, the Cabinet has given approval to the recruitment of 40 accredited community safety officers whose task will be to deal with anti-social behaviour hotspots throughout Hampshire under the direction of the Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services. The proposals will require accreditation under Hampshire Constabulary's accreditation scheme which confers on these officers powers normally available to constables.

2. Whilst the Cabinet has approved the principle of the proposals to enable the process of recruitment to begin, it has requested a detailed report back to its July meeting on objectives, structure, core duties and processes of these officers.

3. Further reports to Council on this important initiative will be made by Cabinet as appropriate.
