Appointments - Assistants to Executive Members

Supplementary Report of the Chief Executive

1. Introduction

1.1 This report is submitted to the Council pursuant to the Leader's statement concerning
the appointment of assistants to Executive Members whose roles will primarily be to:

i) Familiarise themselves with the service area and responsibilities of their
Executive Member (EM);

ii) Attend all pre-agenda and Decision Days of their Executive Member;

iii) Carry out such research and tasks as the Executive Member may request.

2. Assistants to Executive Members

2.1 The proposed appointments are as follows:-

2.2 To accommodate change when required and for transparency, it is proposed that the Leader fill the vacancy and make new appointments formally. It is recommended that the scheme of approved duties for the purpose of the payment of travelling expenses etc., be extended so that its provisions relating to approved attendance by Executive Members apply in the same way to their assistants.

RECOMMENDATION:

i) That the Members listed in paragraph 2.1 of the report be appointed as
assistants to the respective Executive Members with immediate effect;

ii) That the Leader of the Council be authorised to appoint assistants to Executive
Members, as part of the Council's formal decision making
process and recorded as such;


iii) That the Council's scheme of approved duties for travelling expenses etc., be
extended so that Executive Members' qualifying duties apply also to assistants
to Executive Members.
