AMALGAMATION UPDATE: FAREHAM/GOSPORT AND EASTLEIGH/ANDOVER BASIC COMMAND UNITS
1. On the 1 April 2004, the Fareham and Gosport, and Eastleigh and Andover Basic Command Units (BCU) were amalgamated.
2. The aim of the amalgamations is to provide significant efficiency gains, and economies of scale, including the use of the National Intelligence Model, which is much easier for larger BCUs to implement. Operational performance will be the key criteria to which evaluation of the mergers will be based upon.
3. The Authority were advised that the amalgamation process is moving ahead in accordance with reports already received. This has also included liaison with the local authorities in each of the four areas.
4. The amalgamated BCU of Fareham and Gosport has been named Solent East and the new West Hampshire BCU incorporates the former Eastleigh and Andover BCUs.
5. Minor beat boundary changes are to be made to achieve better co-terminosity with local authority boundaries.
6. The Authority will monitor the performance of the merged BCUs through its Performance Panel.
