CREATING SAFER COMMUNITIES PROGRAMME
1. The Authority considered a report on the Creating Safer Communities programme which will be the focus for Hampshire Constabulary's operational activities over the next 12 months. The programme comprises four campaigns:
1. Safer Homes - cracking down on domestic burglary
2. Safer Vehicles - driving down vehicle crime
3. Safer Streets - addressing public reassurance by tackling violent crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour, drugs and the terrorist threat
4. Safer Roads - Reducing deaths and injuries on our roads
2. The aim of the programme is to increase awareness of the work which Hampshire Constabulary is doing to reduce crime and increase public reassurance. The programme will help build public confidence and assist with the process of engaging with communities.
3. Each of the four campaigns addresses a problem, or problems identified in the Force Control Strategy and Annual Policing Plan as being a particular threat to the safety of our communities.
4. The Authority fully support the programme. The first campaign, Safer Homes, was launched on 23 April 2004.
5. Each campaign will focus on educating the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, advising on what is being done to meet policing priorities and highlighting successes, and furthermore empowering the public with information to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime, and how they can contribute to making Hampshire and the Isle of Wight even safer.
