1. Purpose and Summary
1.1. This report provides feedback on the work of the Health Review Committee over the last 12 months, identifying the lessons learned in this new role and the action taken by the Committee in discharging the health overview and scrutiny function.
1.2. The report:
· describes the context within which the Committee has developed its approach to health overview and scrutiny and the guiding principles adopted (Section One);
· summarises the activities of the Committee against the agreed work strands and identifies the anticipated work programme for the coming year (Section Two).
· sets out progress with joint scrutiny arrangements (Section Three).
1.3. The work programme planned by the Committee is attached as Appendix One. The national context in which the work of the Committee has evolved and a summary of the new arrangements for patient and public involvement in health are attached as Annexe Two and Annexe Three respectively.
1.4. The report has been circulated to all Members.
1.5. The recommendations included in this paper support Aim 5 (Improving Services) and Aim 6 (Developing Councillors and Staff) of the Corporate Strategy.
Recommendations
It is recommended that the Committee
1. approves the annual report for 2003/04
2. circulates the report to all County Councillors and partner organisations
3. places the report on the website
