    1. Summary

    1.1 The following decision is sought:

      · that statutory notices be published in accordance with Sections 28 and 29 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, of the County Council's intention to:

      a. Discontinue Pinewood Infant School, with effect from 31 August 2006.

      b. To make a prescribed alteration to Southwood Infant School by the establishment of resourced provision for children with speech, language and communication needs, with effect from 1 September 2006.

      · That the early years provision located on the Pinewood Infant School site be allowed to remain.

      · That county council officers be authorised to engage with Rushmoor Borough Council and appropriate agencies (e.g. Health) to explore the opportunities for developing community provision on the Pinewood Infant School site.

    2. Reasons

    2.1 This decision supports aim one of the Corporate Strategy (Maximising life opportunities) by making the best use of physical resources and aim five improving services.

    2.2 As set out in the attached report considered by the Education Policy Review Committee on 11 May 2004.

    3. Other options considered and rejected

    3.1 Rebuild Pinewood Infant School:

    a. as an existing 180 place infant school,

    b. a 90 place infant school.

    3.2 To amalgamate Pinewood Infant and Guillemont Junior Schools to form a primary school.
