Hampshire County Council SACRE 15 June 2004 Monitoring sub group report Report of the County Education Officer |
ITEM 7 |
Contact: Judith Lowndes - General Inspector - RE (02392 441518)
1. Summary
1.1 A meeting of the monitoring sub group was held on 22 March. Twenty three Ofsted reports were scruitinised (21 primary phase and 3 secondary phase schools) and members of the group discussed the provision of RE indicated in the inspection reports.
1.2 Nine schools in the primary phase (2 infant, 5 junior and 2 primary) were identified to receive letters of commendation and encouragement from the group because of the positive reports they had received from Ofsted inspections. Two secondary schools were also identified to receive letters of commendation and encouragement from the group.
1.3 Reports for seven schools in the primary phase caused concern for group members. As a result, enquiries are being made with the attached inspectors of those schools so that they can inform the group of steps being taken by the school to ensure that the provision of RE is improved.
1.4 A report from one secondary school caused concern and, as a result, the County RE Inspector will enquire about the steps being taken by the school to improve provision.
1.5 The group discussed the quality of the reports in relation to its monitoring role and found that generally, most reports scrutinised on this occasion provided sufficient evidence to determine the quality of religious education in the respective schools.
Recommendation
That SACRE note the report.
