Transforming Youth Work Implementation Plan

1. To develop closer working relationships and encourage the sharing of opportunities between voluntary youth organisations and the Hampshire County Youth Service

Regular meetings have been held with Hampshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (HCVYS) Chair and development worker Deputy CYO attends HCVYS executive meetings Working conference 14 November focused on current youth work issues |
1.2 Work in partnership with HCVYS to maintain and strengthen provision for 13-19 year olds as well as addressing the needs of young people at risk of exclusion from education and or their local community |
30K allocated from TYWDF to support infrastructure and to implement greater involvement in the allocation of grants Grants allocation process revised HCVYS involved in making recommendations to be approved by Executive Member for Education Grant criteria revised to re-focus work of voluntary groups Support and advice provided to strengthen policy and focus of the network |
2. To underpin Youth Service and Connexions involvement and to encourage young people to become engaged in local democratic processes and influence how resources are allocated and used

2.1 Employ two Development Youth Workers (Participation), who will underpin young people's involvement and ensure they are involved and listened to throughout the County and districts |
Two full-time workers appointed with responsibilities agreed to support these key areas of work. Currently only one youth worker is able to full-fill duties due to maternity leave Number of young people engaged in the County Youth Council and forums has grown Young people are supported to engage with Connexions and support is provided to bursary holders by a part-time youth worker There has been no new peer education projects MYPs have been supported and elections held and the number of young people taking part was increased considerably Support given to facilitate consultations with young people |
3. To improve the use of IT within the youth work curriculum

3.1 Employ a Development Youth Worker (IT) to support the development of the curriculum and on-line information services within The Hampshire County Youth Service and with the voluntary youth service in liaison with Hampshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (HCVYS) |
This area has not been developed at present The IT development youth worker post has been advertised twice; and it has not been possible to recruit. A review of this area of work is taking place following the launch of the curriculum document. The review will consider how this area work should be built into ongoing work. The financial support for this area has been re-allocated to the other plan areas |
4. To improve youth information, advice and counselling services

De Montfort university reviewed services The review programme has been completed A draft report was presented to the Youth Service Management Team on 25 November and the final report received February 04 An action plan is being drafted will consider links with Connexions initiatives. Support given to Schools in partnership with Connexions to develop information points |
