Report of the Chief Executive
Contact: David Hinxman, tel: 7339, e-mail: [email protected]
1. Introduction
1.1 This report seeks the Council's approval to a new proportionality table in the light of
the Standards Committee's recommendation that a Governance Committee be
established.
2. Proportionality
2.1 The recommendation of the Standards Committee to establish a Governance
Committee requires the proportionality table to be reviewed. Appendix 1 shows the
current table. The overall position is as follows:
Total |
Conservative |
Liberal Democrat |
Labour |
255 |
158 |
70* |
27 |
* 1 over entitlement |
|||
2.2 Adding a Governance Committee of 5 (3:1:1) and recalculating proportionality results
in Conservative under-representation overall of 1 and an additional Conservative seat on the Buildings, Land and Procurement Panel is proposed to achieve proportionality
precisely. Appendix 2 shows the new table in detail. The overall position would be
as follows:
Total |
Conservative |
Liberal Democrat |
Labour |
261 |
162 |
71 |
28 |
RECOMMENDATION:
That the proportionality table set out as Appendix 2 to the report of the Chief
Executive be approved.
