Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority

RETIREMENT OF MALCOLM EASTWOOD, CHIEF FIRE OFFICER

The Authority reports the retirement of Malcolm Eastwood after thirty-five years as a firefighter and the last nine years as Chief Fire Officer for Hampshire. It brings to an end a distinguished career which has seen him awarded the CBE, QFSM, become a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (FIFireE) and a Commander of the Order of St. John (CStJ). Always active in professional organisations, he was President of the Chiefs and Assistant Chief Fire Officers Association (CACFOA) in 2000/01. The Authority have expressed thanks and appreciation to Mr. Eastwood for his outstanding service and wished him a long and happy retirement. With effect from 1 July, 2004, John Bonney the former Deputy Chief Fire Officer (Personnel, Training and Risk Management) for Hampshire has been appointed Chief Officer for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

HFRS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH HAMPSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL ABOUT SPRINKLER SYSTEM INSTALLATION AND RISK REDUCTION ACTIVITIES

The Authority has welcomed the partnership working between Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the County Council in relation to fire precautions in County Council buildings, in particular the installation of sprinkler systems. Members are also keen to actively pursue discussions with other authorities such as Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils, the health authority and other district councils in Hampshire to conclude agreements with them on sprinkler systems and will continue to focus on activity to reduce risk, central to the Authority's Integrated Risk Management Plan.
