Introduction:
The timetabling of library opening hours over the Christmas/New Year period departs from normal procedures. The days when libraries are open or closed relates to a number of factors. For example, the days when the library normally closes as well as the days when the official public holidays fall. The following shows the closure pattern.
Staff hours of duty are adjusted to take into account bank holidays and annual leave.
Technically, two days of Library Services annual leave entitlement may be prescribed by the Department for operational reasons and library staff may be required to take annual leave on these days. One of the two additional days leave is always taken on Christmas Eve and therefore, does not normally gets added to the annual leave entitlement. However, for most staff these days are normally included within their overall annual leave allowance. The second additional day is added to the normal leave entitlement.
