Disbandment of Light Rapid Transit Development Panel and establishment of Gosport Peninsula Access Panel

1. Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

That the following recommendations be submitted to full Council:-

(a) that the Light Rapid Transit Development Panel be disbanded;


(b) that a Gosport Peninsula Access Panel be established with terms of reference as set out in the attached Appendix.

2. Reason

2.1.1 Following the Government decision not to assist in the funding of the South Hampshire Rapid Transit (SHRT) project, the County council needs to examine all alternative means of improving access to the Gosport Peninsula. The proposal is, therefore, that the Light Rapid Transit Development Panel be disbanded and replaced with a Gosport Peninsula Access Panel, the proposed terms of reference for which are appended to the report. This decision supports the following aims of the County Council's Corporate Strategy:-

Aim 2 - Stewardship of the environment

Aim 3 - Achieving economic prosperity

Aim 5 - Improving services

3.1 To retain the status quo.
