Former Railway Station, Gosport - Planning and Marketing Brief

Summary

1.1

The following decisions are sought:

That approval be given to:

i)

the Director of Property Business and Regulatory Services (Head of Estates Practice) to make minor alterations to the Brief in response to further comments by Gosport Borough Council and public consultation.

ii)

the site being declared surplus to all County Council requirements and marketed with the benefit of the approved Development Brief, the results of the marketing exercise being reported to the Executive Member for Policy & Resources at a future meeting.

iii)

That alongside (i) and (ii) above, the Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services (Head of Estates) continue to investigate the unsolicited interest in the site by a local hotelier.

Reasons

2.1

To safeguard the future of this Grade II* listed building, create new residential and business units and generate a capital receipt.

2.2

This decision supports the following Aims of the Corporate Strategy

Aim 2 - Stewardship of the environment by achieving the restoration of an important Grade II* listed building.

Aim 3 - Achieving economic prosperity by the creation of business units and a capital receipt.

Aim 4 - Building strong and safe communities by the reinstatement and refurbishment of an important, historical local landmark.
