INFORMATION MANAGEMENT OF LOCAL ISSUES FOR MEMBERS

Update:

Following our last meeting I have looked into what is already happening in this area and, following up the lead given by members, have found that the Resources group in the Chief Executives Department have started a working group with IT Services to look into how IT solutions can support improvement in this area as part of the Members IT Strategy..

As you know Martin Shinn, as part of this, has sent you a short questionnaire asking you to give them information about what the issues are. After this consultation they are intending to look at the arising issues and start devising solutions. It is timely therefore for this Committee to do other thinking around the possible `non-IT' issues and solutions to complement this work.

Michelle Smith, who is leading on the above project has agreed to come and speak to Members in the January P&R SSC, if that is required, as by then she will have had the results of this consultation and be starting to look for solutions, I feel any work we do needs to dovetail with this rather than duplicate it.

At the meeting on the 2^nd December:

I suggest that we take the opportunity at this meeting to think about what the problems are and what objective Members would identify for their own investigation into this area without duplicating the work being undertaken by Officers already.

I suggest that we explore the following areas in the meeting to support this:

· Where the 'bottle necks' are in terms of information not getting through?

· What factors may be discouraging the sharing of information?

· Any good practice you know of elsewhere?

If you get the chance please have a think about this beforehand and bring any information that would be useful.

Also you will need to decide if you would like Michelle Smith to come in January to update you on the IT Strategy research mentioned above.
