1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That the attached Project Appraisal for pedestrian improvements to the Romsey Road/Twyford Road Roundabout in Eastleigh, at an estimated cost of £96,000, be approved.

2. Reason

2.1 The decision supports Aim 2 (Stewardship of the environment) and Aim 4 (Building strong and safe communities) of the Corporate Strategy by providing much needed facilities on the pedestrian desire line at this busy roundabout.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 A scheme comprising cycle crossing facilities around the arms of the roundabout has been rejected as being impractical.

3.2 Possible installation of Sculpture Art work on the roundabout has been rejected at this time due to proximity of services and the long term possibility of signalisation at this junction as part of the Chickenhall Lane Link Road scheme.
