1 Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

(i) To approve the County Council's response to the Consultation Paper issued by the Department for Education and Skills, entitled "Modernisation of the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS)", subject to an additional comment being added in relation to the commutation rate of pensions for calculating lump sum payments.

(ii) That the Executive Member delegate to the County Education Officer authority to agree the wording of the additional comment, in consultation with the County Treasurer, in order to meet the required deadline for responding to the consultation document.

2 Reasons

2.1 To advocate the development of the Teacher Pension Scheme so that it will still be appropriate to managing the recruitment, retention and retirement of teachers in future whilst ensuring that it continues to be affordable for their employers.
