Item 5 |

1. Summary
1.1 The following decision is sought:
That the attached Project Appraisal for the installation of a Puffin crossing on Station Road, New Milton, at an estimated cost of £68,000, be approved.
2. Reason
2.1 This decision supports Aim 2 (Stewardship of the environment) and Aim 4 (Building strong and safe communities) of the Corporate Strategy by improving pedestrian safety, particularly for those with disabilities, the elderly and children, and providing facilities that will encourage walking. The crossing is located adjacent to a health centre which covers and will serve a large demographic area of retired elderly people.
3. Other Options Considered and Rejected
3.1 An alternative scheme was considered which would have resulted in the overall loss of two parking spaces in an adjacent lay-by as opposed to four spaces with the proposed scheme.
3.2 This was rejected as third party land would have to have been either dedicated or required for highway purposes and the current landowner was not prepared to enter into any agreement.
4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.
6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - Not applicable.
