1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

    That the attached Project Appraisal to implement traffic calming/safety measures on Water Lane, Totton, as detailed on page 5 of the report, at an estimated cost of £120,000, be approved.

2. Reason

2.1 This decision supports Aim 2 of the Corporate Strategy (Stewardship of the Environment) and Aim 4 (Building Strong and Safe Communities) by providing a scheme that will improve safety for pedestrians and drivers who travel along Water Lane, Totton.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 Alternative traffic management measures were investigated, which included road humps, build-outs and changes in priority at some junctions along Water Lane.

3.2 Following discussions with Totton Town Council and the initial public consultation exhibition, these measures were reviewed and the scheme amended to take into account the views of local people.
