Summary of Bid

(Including breakdown of what money is being spent on, total cost of the project, and timescale of the project)

The bid is to support the Active Community Project and enable it to build on areas of need in Wecock Farm that have been identified in the recent regeneration programme. Most of the physical regeneration has now taken place with 100 new households and a new Community/Youth Centre. The `Active Community Project' wants to employ one full time Development Worker and a part time Admin Officer to work with community, statutory and private agencies to ensure the regeneration process is fulfilled and that the new facilities are used to maximum effect. Employment, training and youth crime are still issues in Wecock and the project will focus on promoting/facilitating training opportunities and will work with residents currently unemployed. In conjunction with the Youth Service and Sports Development Officer the project will also work with young people to reduce crime and substance misuse and improve the overall safety of the community by ensuring that young people have a voice and involvement in projects (eg BMX track planned) and have more opportunities to access employment.

There will be direct links to Havant Volunteer Bureau to ensure the promotion of volunteering opportunities as an early pathway to employment. The project will also work with the new Liveability/Community Board which will ultimately link into the LSP Board.

The Project Manager, is a member of Havant LSP Board, now renamed Havant Partnership Board.

Total cost of the project for 2005/06 is £54654.

Grant is requested for contribution to one years rent and running costs as match funding to SRB.

Project will run from April 2005 to March 2007 but funding is requested for Year 1 start up costs.

How does this bid support the targets within the Community Strategy?

The bid fulfils the following aims of Havant's current Strategy:

Making a Safer Community, Promoting Social Well being, Working to Engage Young People. Improving Educational Attainment and Lifelong Learning.

Havant's draft for its new Strategy has only 3 aims: Economy, Social Inclusion and Environment and I feel that the project will contribute to all three.

It also fulfils all of the HSP's themes of:

Strong and Safe Communities

Health and Well-Being

Economic prosperity and lifelong learning

Environment, infrastructure and transport.
