Contact: David Pryke. Ext: 7342. [email protected]

1 Introduction

The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Trust has invited the County Council to nominate a Governor to the Trust.

1.1 The Trust considers the County Council to be a valued partner and stakeholder organisation. The role of the governor at a NHS Foundation Trust will include giving the views of the constituencies they represent to the Board of Directors for the preparation of forward planning documents. The outline roles and responsibilities of a governor and the code of conduct are attached as an appendix to this report.

1.2 The time commitment required to fulfil this role is estimated to be approximately six days per year.

2 The appointment of a Governor to the Trust would enable an impact to be made in safeguarding the community and would be in line with Aim 4 of the Corporate Strategy.

RECOMMENDATION:

That it be a RECOMMENDATION to the Executive Member for Policy and Resources to appoint a member as Foundation Trust Governor to the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Trust until the annual meeting of the County Council in May 2005 and that the Chief Executive or his nominated officer be appointed as a deputy to attend Board meetings in the event of the nominated Member being unable to attend.
