SCHOOL ORGANISATION PLAN 2003/04 - 2007/08 - OUTCOME OF CONSULTATIONS

1. The Executive Member has approved the School Organisation Plan for the period 2003/04 to 2007/08, as amended following consultation with schools, other interested parties and, as a result of comments made by the Education Policy Review Committee. A copy of the approved plan is available on the County Council's website at http://www.hants.gov.uk/education/department.

2. The County Council were informed about this draft plan in September 2003. It has since been widely consulted upon and approved by the School Organisation Committee. All relevant interested parties were invited to make further comments on an updated version of the plan in 2004. The Education Policy Review Committee considered the document in December 2004. It included some revised information relating to the Havant area. Also, the opportunity was taken at this time to correct some minor textual errors and to clarify items that may give rise to ambiguity. In supporting the plan, the Policy Review Committee wished appropriate references to be included in relation to the County Council's Corporate Aims and this has been done.

3. The School Organisation Plan is an important document. It provides a position statement on policies guiding the provision of school places and is a valuable tool in which to respond to new housing developments and the need to review surplus places. Consequently, authorities are encouraged to update the SOP each year so it can continue to be used in this way.
