Partnership funding for Voluntary Bodies and other Organisations 2004/05 & 2005/06 - Sport and Physical Recreation

1. Summary

1.1 This report considers applications for financial assistance for 2004/05 and 2005/06 from voluntary groups and other organisations working in the field of sport and physical recreation. It recommends the distribution of £10,744 as the remaining funding from 2004/05 and £159,861 as an initial tranche for 2005/06. Further grant applications are anticipated later in the year from groups who are not yet ready to submit.

2. Background

2.1 Voluntary bodies and other organisations are invited to apply for annual partnership funding to assist them with their essential running costs. The support enables them to deliver sports development projects and activities in support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Partnership Strategy and the corporate strategy.

3. Legal Implications

3.1 The Council has wide powers under Section 19 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 to provide recreational facilities, and to contribute by way of grant or loans towards expenses incurred by voluntary bodies in providing such facilities.

4. Financial Situation 2005/06

4.1 The base budget for grants in 2005/06 is £178,000 at November 2004 prices. Allowing for 2.5% inflation, the budget available will be £182,450. Grant recommendations totalling £159,861 are listed in column d in Appendix 2. £22,589 remains available for allocation later in the year.

5. Impact Assessment

5.1 Race and equality impact assessment has been considered in the assessment of this application. No adverse impact has been identified.

Recommendation

That partnership funding totalling £10,744 is distributed from the remaining 2004/05 budget as set out in Appendix 1 and partnership funding totalling £159,861 is distributed from the 2005/06 budget as set out in Appendix 2.
