1 Summary

1.1 This report lists acknowledgements and thanks from grant recipients and sets out a summary of the project development grant applications received since the last meeting of the panel on 11th November 2004. It recommends the Executive Member for Education allocate grants totalling £38,426.

1.2 Supporting voluntary sector youth organisations through Project Development Grants extends the capacity of the voluntary sector to increase delivery of effective youth work and supports Corporate Strategy Aim 1, Maximising life opportunities and Corporate Strategy Aim 4, building strong and safe communities, as well as contributing to the Cabinet priority for Youth.

4. Summary

4.1 This report identifies organisations applying for Project Development Grants and the recommendations of the County Youth Officer.

5. Impact assessment

5.1 No adverse impact on race or equality has been identified in the development of this proposal.

6. Personnel Implications

6.1 No personnel implications have been identified for County Council staff. However, the recommendations may lead to a greater security in funding within the voluntary sector and consequently increased employment.

6. Financial Implications

7.1 No additional financial implications have been identified with this proposal.

8. Crime Prevention Issues

8.1 It has been demonstrated that good youth work reduces the likelihood of some young people being involved in crime. These recommendations will lead to improving partnerships between those involved in youth work; this will increase opportunities for young people and consequently decrease their involvement in crime.

9. Recommendation:

    1. That the Executive Member for Education approves grant allocations as set out in the appendix and summarised below, totalling £38,426 be approved.
