1 The Democratic Health Network has published a review of effective local authority scrutiny of health in its first two years, a copy of which is available in the Member's Room

2 The issues covered in the review included :

· How health scrutiny is affecting NHS Services


· Changes to local authority services


· The experience of service users


· Changes in employment and staffing


· The policy development role of scrutiny


· Impact on partnership working


· Patient/Public involvement in health scrutiny

3 Some of the information Hampshire County Council sent in response to the Democratic Health Network questionnaire is quoted in the publication which presents an interesting and positive picture of how many local authorities are getting to grips with health scrutiny and really making a difference in the health arena.

This supports aims 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the corporate strategy.
