AT A MEETING of the APPOINTMENT PANEL of the COUNTY COUNCIL held at The Castle, Winchester on 22 April 2005.

PRESENT:

1 DECLARATION OF INTERESTS

Members were mindful that, where they believed they had a personal or personal prejudicial interest in any matter to be considered at the meeting, they should normally at the time of the debate, declare their interest and, having regard to the circumstances described in paragraphs 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the County Council's Code of Conduct, consider whether to leave the meeting whilst the matter was discussed.
No such interests were declared by Members.

2 APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN

RESOLVED:

That Councillor T.K. Thornber, CBE, be appointed Chairman of the Panel.

3 CHAIRMAN'S COMMUNICATIONS

There were no communications on this occasion.

4 EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the item referred to in Minute 5 below.

5 APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN'S SERVICES

The Panel considered confidential details of short-listed candidates for the post of Director of Children's Services. They received a presentation from the Recruitment Consultants' Occupational Psychologist. They then proceeded to interview 4 candidates for the post and after full consideration it was

RESOLVED:

That Mr. J. Coughlan, currently Corporate Director of Social Care at Telford and Wrekin Council, be appointed Director of Children's Services.
