Minor Projects - Progress Report

1. Summary

1.1 The purpose of this report is to provide an update of the progress made in implementing those schemes in the Education Capital Programme with a value of between £43,000 and £216,000 (exclusive of fees).

2. Current Position

2.1 The attached tables summarise the current position in relation to schemes funded by the Education 2003/04 and 2004/05 Capital Programme including Minor Works, Seed Challenge, William Price Trust, Schools Access Initiative (SAI), New Opportunities Fund (NOF) and Staff Workplaces budget. The tables provide details of the funding, a brief description of the works and a summary of the current position.

3. Education Minor Works 2004/5

3.1 Bordon Junior School

    This school has been allocated £50,000, excluding fees, from the Education 2004/05 Capital Programme. The capital programme report, elsewhere on this agenda, identifies this scheme as part of the funding from the block vote for the Management of Falling Rolls and permission is sought to included it in the capital programme for 2004/05 and subsequently carried forward into 2005/06.

    It is proposed that the funding, together with a contribution from the School of £61,800, excluding fees, and a contribution from Policy & Resources of £20,000, excluding fees, will be used to provide an extension to create an entrance lobby, canopy and internal alterations to the admin office.


It is proposed to go out to tender during May 2005 with an estimated start date of July 2005 with completion anticipated in October 2005.

3.2 Hamble Primary School

    This school has been allocated £100,000, excluding fees, from the Education 2005/06 Capital Programme, subject to Executive Member, Education's approval to the capital programme report elsewhere on this agenda.

    It is proposed that the funding, together with a contribution from the School of £55,000, excluding fees, will be used to provide an extension to an existing classroom to create an additional teaching space, cloak and lobby.


It is proposed to go out to tender during September 2005 with an estimated start date of November 2005 with completion anticipated in April 2006.

4. Specialist Schools Accommodation

4.1 Court Moor School

    This school has been allocated an additional £87,000, excluding fees, from the Education 2005/06 Capital Programme.

    It is proposed that the funding, will be used to provide refurbishment of a further two science laboratories.


It is proposed to negotiate this scheme with Nolan Davis Contracting who are currently on site refurbishing the other science laboratories at the School and who have the capacity to undertake this additional work.

Recommendation

    1. That the changes to the minor works programme be approved.
