Transforming Youth Work Plan

1. To develop closer working relationships and encourage the sharing of opportunities between voluntary youth organisations and the Hampshire County Youth Service

1.1 Improve the working relationship between the Youth Service, community and voluntary groups to build and increase capacity within the voluntary sector

    Regular meetings have been held with HCVYS Chair and development worker

    Deputy CYO attends HCVYS executive meetings

    Conference held on 3 March to explore Green Paper and Children Act developments. Excellent attendance with over 50 delegates

1.2 Work in partnership with HCVYS to maintain and strengthen provision for 13-19 year olds as well as addressing the needs of young people at risk of exclusion from education and/or their local community

    30K allocated from TYWDF to support infrastructure and to implement greater involvement in the allocation of grants

    The revision of grants allocation and process has been postponed until after the local government elections

    Support and advice provided to strengthen policy and focus of the network. A joint QA process is currently under discussion. Connexions is supporting AQUIP

2. To underpin Youth Service and Connexions involvement and to encourage young people to become engaged in local democratic processes and influence how resources are allocated and used

2.1 Employ two Development Youth Workers (Participation), who will underpin young people's involvement and ensure they are involved and listened to throughout the County and districts

Two full-time workers appointed to support these key areas of work.

Number of young people engaged in the County Youth Council and local fora has grown

MYPs have been re-elected

Support given to facilitate consultations with young people

Active programme for democracy week developed

HCVYS and the Youth Service are actively involved in the CYPSP

2.2 Support the participation of young people within the Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership (CYPSP)

Youth Service Manager involved in CYPSP working group

A development worker to support the engagement of young people in the CYPSP has been advertised. The post is funded from a range of agencies

3. To improve the use of IT within the youth work curriculum

3.1 Employ a Development Youth Worker (IT) to support the development of the curriculum and on-line information services within The Hampshire County Youth Service and with the voluntary youth service in liaison with HCVYS

The appointment of an IT development youth worker post has been shelved due to difficulties in recruitment

A review of this area of work is taking place following the launch of the curriculum document. The review will consider how this area work should be built into ongoing work

Hardware is being provided to projects to connect them to IT systems

Electronic data collection systems are under review and compatibility assessments are being made with County Council systems

5. To support the delivery of The Hampshire County Youth Service training programme
