1 Summary

1.1 This report is presented following a recommendation at the Cabinet meeting on 23rd May 2005 that all Policy Review Committees receive the presentation of the annual equality and diversity performance report. The report and improvement plan are attached.

2 Legal implications

2.1 The approach taken to Equality and Diversity ensures that the Council meets its statutory duty on Human Rights, race, gender, Disability, Age, Sexual Orientation and Religion

3 Financial implications

3.1 There are no financial implications for Children services as a result of this report

4 Personnel implications

4.1 None

5 Impact assessment

5.1 Race and equality impact assessment has been considered and reported in the Cabinet report of 23rd May 2005

6 Crime prevention issues

6.1 The review of equality and diversity highlighted the need for closer links with the Councils' approach to Crime and Disorder.

Recommendations

    That the Children Services Policy Review Committee

    1. Ensure all members of are fully aware of their role to support the implementation of the Equality Plan and Race Scheme

    2. Reports to the committee show the outcome of Race and Equality Impact assessment
