Summary

1.1

Members will be interested to note the developments regarding the introduction on a phased basis of a Family Mentoring Service which was submitted to the Social Care Policy Review Committee on 30 March 2005 and subsequently approved by the Executive Member for Social Care on 1 April 2005 (Appendix 1 attached).

The improvements in services envisaged for children and their families support the five outcomes in `Every Child Matters' and set out in the Children Act 2004.

It was agreed by the Executive Member that, following negotiations and further development work outlined in the report, progress on implementation would be reported in the Autumn of 2005. It has been confirmed with the two voluntary organisations involved in the pilot scheme that training and other preparatory work will start in the Autumn.
