1. Summary

1.1 This report considers an application for financial assistance for 2005/06 from the Rugby Football Union for Women. It recommends the distribution of £3,500.

2. Background

2.1 Voluntary bodies and other organisations are invited to apply for annual partnership funding to assist them with their essential running costs. The support enables them to deliver sports development projects and activities in support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Partnership Strategy and the corporate strategy in the areas of maximising life opportunities (aim 1) and building strong and safe communities (aim 4) .

3. Legal Implications

3.1 The Council has wide powers under Section 19 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 to provide recreational facilities, and to contribute by way of grant or loans towards expenses incurred by voluntary bodies in providing such facilities.

4. Financial Situation 2005/06

4.1 Partnership funding allocations totalling £159,861 were made on 17 March 2005 leaving £22,589 for allocation during the remainder of the financial year. If this application is approved, £19,089 would remain available for allocation later in the year.

5. Impact Assessment

5.1 Race and equality impact assessment has been considered in the assessment of this application. No adverse impact has been identified.

Recommendation

That partnership funding totalling £3,500 is distributed from the 2005/06 budget as set out in Appendix 1.
