BUSINESS TRAVEL PLAN PARTNERSHIP FUND

1. By 2003 it had become evident to the County Council that a potential barrier to organisations considering the development or implementation of a travel plan, was the funding of measures on their site. Accordingly, a pilot scheme for 2004/05 was approved in 2003 by the former Executive Member for Environment, under which businesses were invited to bid for matched funding up to a maximum of £5,000 (and not more than 50% of the total costs of the project) for onsite sustainable transport measures. The initiative proved popular and in January 2005 approval was given to the allocation of a further £50,000 from the Local Transport Plan to operate the Business Travel Plan Partnership Fund during 2005/06.

2. For 2005/06 a total of 14 high quality bids were received from which 11 have been approved for funding. These mainly take the form of cycle shelter provision but also include, for example, bespoke bus timetables and commuter information leaflets. From the 11 bids approved, 3 organisations have previously received funding which, encouragingly, demonstrates a sustained commitment to the promotion of improved accessibility to their sites by a range of modes.
