Bus Subsidies 2005/06

Report of the Director of Environment

Item 7

Contact: Andrew Wilson, ext 6921 email: [email protected]

1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That, in order to manage the 2005/06 cost pressures on the bus subsidy budget, the list of proposed service changes, as agreed by the Executive Member for Environment: South Hampshire and Resource Management on 26 July 2005, is confirmed, except for those shown in the attached list.

2. Reason

2.1 This decision supports Aim 1 (Maximising Life Opportunities) of the Corporate Strategy by prioritising support for public transport services for people to access employment, education, shopping and medical facilities according to the level of passenger subsidy per journey.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 To delay implementing some proposals to see if additional funding may be forthcoming from Districts.

3.2 To implement the reduced frequency of evening and Sunday services on Routes 1 and 5 in Winchester, which are Quality Bus Partnership routes.

3.3 Further changes could have been pursued now to recover the additional £37,000 shortfall, but this would require further consultation.

4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.

6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - Not applicable.
