1 Application for grants
1.1 Applications for scholarships under the terms of the Mace Trust have now been received (Appendix 1 shows the terms of the Trust). Scholarships totalling £2,000 are now recommended, which would provide support to all eligible applicants. The amounts will be payable in each year of the student's courses.
1 Financial position
1.1 The Trust's annual income is approximately £6,400. Of this sum £4,250 is already committed in 2005/06 as a result of awards made in previous years. £2,150 is available from current income for awards this year and in view of less expenditure than expected in previous years a further £1,350 is available for distribution this year or in future years. This sum will give the capacity to make the grants recommended in Appendix 2.
2 Recommendation
2.1 That scholarships be awarded to the individuals in the amounts shown in Appendix 2.

Evelyn Mace Educational Trust and Scholarship
Background information and the terms of the Trust
In 1999, the Mace Educational Trust was established following a bequest received by the County Council from Mrs Evelyn Mace, a former head teacher and Winchester School Governor. The net yearly income of the Trust is to be applied by the County Council for the advancement of education through the award of scholarships, bursaries or similar financial assistance to students under the age of 25 years resident in Hampshire.
The Charities Panel and the Community and Conservation Committee agreed that the most efficient way of using the Trust would be to establish two types of annual scholarship.
· Evelyn Mace Drama Scholarships for students due to start a drama or poetry course of Higher Education
· Evelyn Mace Scholarships to be made to students in, or formerly in, the care of Hampshire County Council in order for them to pursue a course of Higher Education.
