1. Summary
1.1 The following decisions are sought:
i) That the Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage endorses the continued implementation of work, in response to Open Access Legislation, through a targeted grant application to the Countryside Agency.
ii) That, in recognition of the national recognition attained, Hampshire County Council's current policy and approach to Countryside Access planning and development work is sustained.
iii) That efforts to broaden opportunities for all sections of the community to benefit from access to the countryside and develop initiatives on health and physical activity is agreed as a key element of the work programme.
2. Reason
2.1 The purpose of this report is to report back to members on the access development work of the Countryside Service, (including recent feedback on our performance from the Countryside Agency) and demonstrate how local communities are getting involved with our work to provide opportunities for people to enjoy Hampshire's countryside.
2.2 The report demonstrates the relevance of this work to the County Council's Corporate Strategy. In particular, by developing opportunities for people to enjoy the countryside, this work aims to directly improve the quality of life for people in the county through improvements to health and well-being. The report also highlights the economic and environmental benefits and gives examples of how this work can involve local communities in managing and improving access to their own countryside locally.
