1. Introduction
1.1. Mr G. Boutle has resigned as a member of the County Council's Independent Remuneration Panel which recommends the levels of Members' Allowances to the Governance Committee. The Panel should comprise three members and substitutes previously appointed have taken their places on the panel as other vacancies have arisen. It is suggested that the vacancy be filled until the annual meeting of the County Council in May 2006 when the current term of office of the Panel expires.
2. Background
2.1. Regulations require the County Council to advertise next year inviting interest from the community in membership of the County Council's Independent Remuneration Panel. This will be done early in 2006. In the meantime a vacancy has arisen in the membership of the Panel and it is suggested that Mr G Wilkinson be appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr Wilkinson is currently a member of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority's informal Independent Remuneration Panel which advises on the Authority's Members' Allowances scheme. He is also an experienced member of Southampton City Council's Independent Remuneration Panel. The Fire Authority's Members' Allowances scheme follows the format of the County Council's scheme and Mr Wilkinson's experience of that is considered to be an asset.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That Mr G Wilkinson be appointed a member of the County Council's Independent Remuneration Panel until the annual meeting of the Council in May 2006.
