HOME TO SCHOOL TRANSPORT
1. The Executive Member for Education has considered a report on the impact of the "Spend to Save Initiative" in home to school transport (HTST) and approved a number of further initiatives. The report shows net savings of just under £1 million have been achieved between 2000/01 an 2004/05. One effect of these savings has been to restrain the growth in the HTST budget in comparison with the OFSTED Comparator group of authorities. The budget increase in Hampshire during this period was 18% compared to the group average of 36%.
2. Among the range of further initiatives which the Executive Member has approved are area reviews of mainstream pupil transport. Other proposals include the purchase of specialist vehicles for SEN pupils and the provision of an integrated service for respite care transport. They are to be the subject of further reports to the Executive Member at a later date.
3. This supports aim 5 (improving services) of the Corporate Strategy by developing proposals to improve home to school transport and achieving better value for money and service improvement.
