SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS EDUCATION POLICY

1 The County Council has a role in the delivery of sex and relationships education through the County Youth Service. The voluntary nature of the relationship between youth workers and young people puts them in an ideal position to offer young people, when they are ready, the information and support they need to develop safe and responsible sexual relationships. The Executive Member for Education has considered and approved the Sex and Relationships policy of the Youth Service which provides:

    (a) context and definition

    (b) a clear framework for youth workers and young people to ensure good practice

    (c) training, information and support contacts

2 A copy of the report approved by the Executive Member is in the Members' Rooms. This has close connections with the Sexual Health and Education of Service Users referred to elsewhere on this agenda in the joint report of the Executive Members for Children's Services and Adult Services on Sexual Health and Education of Service Users.

3 This supports aim 1 (maximising life opportunities) of the Corporate Strategy by ensuring services are of a high quality, accessible and caring, aim 2 (building stronger and safer communities) by ensuring the service meets changing needs and aim 6 (developing staff) by ensuring staff are equipped with appropriate skills and knowledge to respond to the changing needs of young people.
