2005/06 PROGRAMME OF IMPROVEMENTS TO INTERCHANGE FACILITIES AT RAIL STATIONS
1. In recent years, the County Council has sought to further its policies on promoting modal shift, addressing social exclusion, and enhancing the local environment, by funding minor improvements of a less commercial nature at rail stations. These improvements have included refurbishment of waiting areas, the upgrading of shelters, the provision of cycle storage facilities and improved signage and are usually implemented on a match funding basis with the franchised train operating companies, or as a contribution to one of their schemes.

· Basingstoke - Improved waiting and information facilities on island platform - £25,000
· Shawford - Provision of vandal proof shelter with seating - £9,000
· Grateley and Overton - Passenger waiting facilities upgrade - £3,000 each
· Romsey - Provision of cycle lockers and improvements to waiting accommodation - £4,000
