REPORT OF THE
HEALTH OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEE
PART II
PROPOSALS TO DEVELOP OR VARY NHS SERVICES
1. The Committee has been alerted to proposals by the Strategic Health Authority to the review of acute paediatric/maternity services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight; by Southampton City Primary Care Trust for the modernising of Community Services and by Portsmouth City Primary Care Trust on proposed changes to the Substance Misuse Service and changes to Low Secure Rehabilitation Services.
2. Consideration has been given to a consultation document setting out proposals for developing rehabilitation and a range of other non-acute services provided at Andover War Memorial Hospital. Members received a presentation on the proposals and have sought additional information to enable them to come to a balanced view.
3. The East Hampshire Primary Care Trust has commenced a consultation period on proposed changes to community service configuration in Emsworth and Havant. The proposals would enable timely services as locally as possible and prevent older people having to be admitted to hospital. A number of issues still needed to be addressed and further information has accordingly been sought.
4. The North Hampshire Primary Care Trust has outlined steps being taken to protect standards of care as a result of staff shortages at Alton Hospital and is now working with local people to remodel the services provided to maintain its 24 beds and provide alternative support services to older people living in the area. The Committee received a presentation on the proposals and is awaiting the receipt of a formal consultation following further work with stakeholders being carried out.
5. Southwest Hampshire Primary Care Trusts have launched a formal consultation on the provision of out of hours services in their area. The consultation ends on 27 September 2005 and the Committee will give it further consideration at its next meeting.
6. This supports Aims 1,4 and 5 of the Corporate Strategy.
