1 Summary

1.1 The report lists the acknowledgements and thanks received from recipients of grants made at last meeting of the Panel on 16 June 2005 and identifies the youth organisations applying for Project Development Grants with the recommendation of the County Youth Officer. The paper recommends the Executive Member for Education allocate grants totalling £15,625.

1.2 Supporting voluntary sector youth organisations through Project Development grants extends the capacity of the voluntary sector to increase delivery of effective youth work and supports Corporate Strategy Aim 1, Maximising life opportunities and Corporate Strategy Aim 4, building strong and safe communities

4 Impact Assessment

4.1 No adverse impact on race or equality has been identified in the development of this proposal.

5 Personnel implications

6.1 No personnel implications have been identified for County Council staff. However, the recommendations may lead to a greater security in funding within the voluntary sector and may lead to increased employment.

6 Financial implications

6.1 No additional financial implications have been identified with this proposal.

7 Crime Prevention Issues

7.1 It has been demonstrated that good youth work reduces the likelihood of some young people being involved in crime. These recommendations will lead to improving partnerships between those involved in youth work; this will increase opportunities for young people and consequently decrease their involvement in crime.

8 Recommendation

      That it be a RECOMMENDATION to the Executive Member for Education:

      That the grant allocations set out in the appendix and summarised below totalling £15,625 be approved.
