Review of Governance of Milestones Museum

1. Summary
The following decisions are sought:
i) That the progress report on the quest for a stable, long-term sustainable footing for the governance of Milestones be noted and the decision of the Milestones Executive Board to accelerate the progress of the review and commission the production of a business case for Trust status be supported.
ii) That the existence of the Executive Board is confirmed on the terms of reference stated in the Appendix to provide clarity as to the role of the Executive Board in the forthcoming governance review project.
2. Reasons
2.1 To improve the long-term sustainability of Milestones within the partnership of Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and to enable Milestones to improve its ability to deliver its objective:
to interpret and care for Hampshire's social and industrial heritage for the education and enjoyment of visitors, users and stakeholders
in line with Aim 5 of the Corporate Objectives.
3. Other options considered and rejected
- The alternative to initiating this review would be to retain the status quo. The review itself will consider any other options which would deliver the same benefits as Trust status.
