Summary

Attached is the Audit Commission's Annual Audit Letter to the Authority for 2004/05. The Authority's external auditors will be at the meeting to formally present the Letter and to answer any questions Members may have on its content (see Appendix 1). It is also available electronically on our website: http://www.hantsfire.gov.uk/annualauditletter2004-05.pdf

The Letter gives an unqualified opinion on the Authority's accounts and no significant concerns have been raised on governance arrangements or performance management processes.

Members will note the comment regarding the need to review and update the Authority's (built estate) asset valuation. Arrangements are already in place to ensure that this is completed before the end of the current financial year. Further, it has been agreed with the auditors that the revaluation process will, from 2006/07, be undertaken as a five-year rolling programme to spread the cost of carrying out this work.
